چکیده

This paper deals with the existence of $N$ vortex patches located at vertex a regular polygon sides that rotate around center constant angular velocity. That is done for Euler and (SQG)$_\beta$ equations, $\beta\in(0,1)$, but may be also extended to more general models. The idea desingularization Thomsom point system, is, vortices sides. proof based on study contour dynamics equation combined application infinite dimensional Implicit Function theorem well--chosen function spaces.

Geometric phases for corotating elliptical vortex patches

We describe a geometric phase that arises when two elliptical vortex patches corotate. Using the Hamiltonian moment model of Melander, Zabusky, and Styczek @J. Fluid Mech. 167, 95–115 ~1986!# we consider two corotating uniform elliptical patches evolving according to the second order truncated equations of the model. The phase is computed in the adiabatic setting of a slowly varying Hamiltonian...

Multiscale Approximation of Vortex Patches

We propose an adaptive scheme, based on multiscale decomposition into interpolatory wavelet bases, to simulate the evolution of vortex patches associated to solutions of the two-dimensional Euler equations. This scheme is based on fast algorithms that relate the numerically signiicant wavelet coeecients with the irregular sampling of the boundary of the patch on an adaptive grid. This method al...

Operator Splitting for Well-Posed Active Scalar Equations

We analyze operator splitting methods applied to scalar equations with a nonlinear advection operator, and a linear (local or nonlocal) diffusion operator or a linear dispersion operator. The advection velocity is determined from the scalar unknown itself and hence the equations are so-called active scalar equations. Examples are provided by the surface quasi-geostrophic and aggregation equatio...

Convex Integration for a Class of Active Scalar Equations

T̂ [θ](ξ) = m(ξ)θ̂(ξ), ξ ∈ Z. We make the following assumptions about m. We assume that m : R\{0} → R is even, 0-homogeneous, and m(ξ) · ξ = 0 a.e. Note that m is not necessarily smooth or even bounded, so the operator T is not assumed to be of Calderón-Zygmund type. We say that the pair (θ, u) ∈ Lloc(R × T) is a weak solution of the system (1)–(4) on R if for every φ ∈ C∞ 0 (R× T) the following ...

Elliptic vortex patches: coasts and chaos

We investigate the interaction of ocean vortex patches with boundaries via the elliptic moment model of Melander, Zabusky & Stysek [13], under which vortex patches are approximated as elliptic regions of uniform vorticity. The interaction with a straight boundary is shown to reduce to the problem of an ellipse in constant strain, as previously investigated by Kida [9]. Interactions with more co...
